Kim Tarquinio is a Jane of all trades with an amazing ability to be everywhere at once. With 20 years of experience in the communications field, she has involved herself in a wide variety of tasks including project management, website development, public relations, publication writing and much more. We sat down with Kim to find out how she manages her daily responsibilities at Pipitone Group (PG).
How long have you been in the business? I haven’t been in the agency business very long – just 4 years. However, for the 16 years prior to that I worked in the corporate communications field, doing publication writing and editing, public relations, website development, event planning and overall project management for large organizations includingChildren’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and Kaiser Permanente.
What’s a regular day at the office like for you?
Meetings, meetings and more meetings. . . I never stay in one spot too long and am always meeting either with internal groups or groups that consist of a mix of clients and internal staff to kick projects off or keep them moving. I also spend a lot of time reviewing and proofing work, testing websites and updating or creating administrative documents such as proposals, estimates, timelines and creative briefs. And, my day never ends when the doors get locked. I work late into the night almost every night to keep pace with all the projects we’re managing here every day.
What are some of your current professional goals?
I’d like to see my career continue to evolve as it has over the past 20 years. Specifically, I’d like to further develop my knowledge, skills and experience as a marketing strategist, particularly in the digital space, and to help my team to do the same.
What unique qualities do you bring to PG?
I was a PG client before I became a PG employee so I think I bring a unique perspective to every project we handle having been on the other side of the fence before. I think I can anticipate what our clients might ask, want or need having been in their shoes for years. I also have years of experience working in the PR/content development field and in website development, (plus I’m married to an art director), so I think I have a good solid understanding of all the different disciplines we have here at PG.
I spent 6 ½ years living and working in Hawaii, so one day I hope to be able to take my husband and children back there to visit. I also want to travel to Ireland and visit my grandparents’ hometowns; I’m the only one in my family who hasn’t made it over there yet.
What’s been your favorite PG project so far?
One of my most recent favorite projects has been helping to developAssumption College’s new virtual tour. We worked with the college’s corporate communications and public relations departments to develop a one-of-a-kind virtual experience that brings the campus to life for prospective students and their families.
What is the best advice you’ve received?
My dad always said: “Never quit. Whatever you start; you need to finish.” It taught me patience, perseverance and has helped me in every facet of my life.

Part of working at PG: The people. I get to work with a lot of very talented, very experienced people from whom I learn something new every day.
